Even though Potsdam, the most populous capital of the state of Brandenburg, is still part of the Berlin conurbation, things are a bit quieter here. The unique lakes as well as the castles and parks (by the way, they have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1990) invite you to linger. Many research-related companies have settled around the 30 or so research institutes and 3 universities, and Potsdam is considered to be the most important biotech location in Germany. The traditional film studio Babelsberg plays a completely different, but at least equally exciting role. As the oldest large film studio in the world and the largest film studio in Europe in terms of surface area, the Babelsberg studio can look back on a whole series of well-known productions.
